How do we manage our Hijab in the hot temps like, Malaysia?

What is Hijab? Hijab is more than covering one’s hair. It is a style of modest dress and behavior (yes ladies, don’t forget behavior) in accordance with Islamic teachings and applies to women and men. Let us recall what Allah SWT directed believing women to cover specific parts of their bodies. In this verse, He says: “And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms.” [Surah Nur 24:31]

Like everyone knows, this is where the mandate for Muslim women to cover their hair (and body), and by time the cultural application of hijab as a religious head covering, extends! Women across the globe who choose to adhere to the Islamic directive of hijab do so in a range of beautiful and wonderful ways that demonstrate the faith’s diversity. YES! Covering our aura doesn’t mean that we need to look dull.

Question is, have you ever been asked by anyone if you’re hot (um, yes? haha) and how you deal with the heat since you chose to adhere the modest dressing and hijab? As temperatures rise in Malaysia, here are some useful tips to keep cool in hotter weather :)

Dresses are a must because they allow air to flow and are not close to the skin. Sandals with minimal straps and embellishments keeps our feet comfortable and cool (don't forget to cover your feet with socks!). Note that a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen in your vehicle will help A LOT!

The saying, it all begins in the mind, applies here. As hijab was once a struggle for some women, this is a time we pray for strength and reset our intention. Keep your fabrics  and colors light. Opt for cotton clothes and chiffon hijabs (like SS’s pleated hijab? hehe); they know how to catch a breeze!

Remember our instant Madison air collection? Serious talk here. We, at Sugarscarf have been wearing the Madison instant shawl with ANTI-VIRAL functions on the super hot days to stay cool, and it’s changed our life immensely. It really does cool so well, Masha’Allah, is so breathable, and it never smells after a long hot day of being out. You don’t need to wrap your hijab too tightly around the neck, just to give yourself some breathing room.

Hope you enjoy reading our blog entry this time. Stay cool, my sisters. Stay cool! Bye :)
